FAYETTEVILLE - Walter Robert Mitton Jr., 60, of Fayetteville, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009, in his home. Mr. Mitton was a retired U.S. Army staff sergeant and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was also a truck driver for 20 years. He was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Church. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 26, 2009, at 3 p.m. in Mount Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. Todd Blake officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. He is survived by his wife of 28, years, Ruby Roberta Carver Mitton of the home; sons, Walter Robert Mitton III and Robert Walter Mitton of upstate New York; a stepdaughter, Robin Daniel of Fayetteville; two sisters, Roberta Gillis and Linda Allen; and brother, Leslie Mitton, all of upstate New York. Services entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
