Walter Thomas(Tom) Vick, Jr. passed away at home on August 16, 2013. Tom was born January 12, 1923 in Red Oak, NC to Walter Thomas Vick and Siddie Pearl Everette. This farm family also included brothers Isaac "Skeet" Vick(deceased), Edward "Mossy" Vick(deceased), William "Bean" Vick of Dallas, Texas and Douglas Vick(deceased) as well as sisters Catherine Strickland of Rocky Mount, Rena Medlin of Greenville and Nancy Britt of Spartanburg, SC. Mr. Vick was previously married to Marjorie Hardy(deceased) with whom he had two children, Walter Thomas Vick III of Fayetteville and Cynthia Vick Howard of Greensboro. Children from his second marriage to Rachel Lucas(deceased) include Mark Vick of Raleigh, Todd Vick of Fayetteville, and DeNise Vick of Charlotte. For the past 31 years he has been married to Helen McNeill Vick. His step children from Helen are Robin Roberts of Fayetteville and Donna Perkins(deceased). Family has been the center of Tom's life. He was blessed with twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren who will forever remember the stories he told, the memories they made and lifes' lessons he taught. Tom grew up during the Great Depression and survived the hardships of farm life at that time to go on to a successful business career in a number of areas. He got his start in mercantile sales which eventually brought him to Fayetteville. His middle life after the death of his first wife involved running and expanding Haymount Cleaners. His later professional life was in real estate where he had a stellar reputation for his sales ability. During a period on the coast he was named top salesman in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia for several months running. In his early life Tom along with his first wife was heavily involved in the activities of Trinity Baptist Church and Immanuel Baptist Church. Before failing health curtailed his activities, Tom and family were regulars at the Haymount Grille for over 50 years. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to your favorite charity in his honor. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Jernigan-Warren Chapel. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey St. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 till 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2013.
