Mr. Walter Howard "Walt" Warfel, 72, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 11 am in Jernigan Warren Chapel with Rev. Archie Barringer presiding. The family will receive friends Friday evening, March 28, from 6 to 8 pm at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home. Walt was retired from civil service, serving as Director of Contracting at Ft. Bragg from 1976-2001. He was a member of the Savannah Lions Club. He loved spending time with his family and was an avid coastal fisherman. He loved golf and especially playing poker with his poker buddies. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Ann Warfel of the home; sons, Walter Warfel, Jr. and wife Juila, of Hope Mills and Glenn Warfel of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Nathan Warfel and wife Katie, Nicki Warfel, and Kyle Warfel; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Mason and Hannah; sister, Frankie Bates and husband James of Costa Rica; and mother-in-law, Mary Nuscher of Savannah.
