Retired U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Warren Lee Hughes, 78, of Fayetteville, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2015, in The Crossing at Wayside in Raeford.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, having served two terms and retired as a command sergeant major. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Al Hughes; and sister, Leoana Thornbrough.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2015, in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Wallace officiating. The burial will follow in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2015, at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Annie Ruth Turner Hughes of the home; daughter, Sharon Lee Hughes of Fayetteville; son, Gary Lee Hughes and wife Mae Hinson of Marston; brother, Robert Hughes of Orland, Calif.; sister, Arlene Sorter and husband Russ of West Plains, Mo.
