Wilbert Barefoot, 95, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
Born on November 1, 1930, in Sampson County, Wilbert was the son of the late Elijah Barefoot and Neta Hudson Barefoot. A man of dedication and quiet strength, he answered the call to serve his country at a young age. In 1947, during the inaugural year of the United States Air Force, he was drafted and served for one year before being honorably released due to a family hardship. He later continued his service in the United States Army, where he proudly served for four years.
Following his military service, Wilbert built a long and respected career with the United States Postal Service. Over 27 years, he rose to the position of Superintendent of Mail Service, earning the respect of colleagues and the community alike for his commitment and leadership. He was a dedicated member of Second Baptist Church.
Wilbert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Lora H. Barefoot; his 2nd wife, Eleanor Kimble Barefoot; his sisters, Norma, Leila, Aleene, and Lillian; and his brothers, Cecil, Earl, and James Robert.
He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his daughter, Deborah Williammee; his son, Wilbert Stevens Barefoot; his sisters, Lallon Hollingworth and Sylvia Maxwell; his grandsons, Michael Brandon Barefoot and Zachary Elisha Barefoot; and his great-grandchildren, Maxwell, Roma, Russell.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m.in the Chapel. Burial will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park.

Wilbert's life was one of faith, service, love, and dedication. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
