Mr. Wilbur D. Johnson, 84, of Fayetteville, died peacefully Sunday, September 27, 2015, in his home surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015, at 2 pm in Jernigan Warren Chapel with Rev. Sherrill Boykin and Pastor Eddie Williams presiding. The burial will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park.

Wilbur joined the Fayetteville Fire Department on August 2, 1952 and had held every rank therein when he retired as Fire Chief in December 1988.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mildred Johnson; daughter, Barbara Johnson (Phil) of Fayetteville; 2 sons, Jeffrey Darnell Johnson (Aundrea) of Fayetteville and Jonathan Robert Johnson (Mara) of Camdenton, MO; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brother, Larry Johnson (Claudya) of Eastover and two sisters, Sara Lounette Johnson of Fayetteville and Linda Mulhall (Phillip) of Hope Mills.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday from 12 pm to 2 pm at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fayetteville Fire Department Benevolent Fund, Station #14, 632 Langdon St., Fayetteville NC 28301 (memo to: Honor Guard) or Second Baptist Church, 522 Person St., Fayetteville NC 28301.
