Wilbur \\"Buddy\\" Welling Masters III, 73, of Fayetteville, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, at 3 pm in Haymount United Methodist Church with Dr. Brian Gentle and Rev. Donna Fowler-Marchant officiating. The burial will follow in Cross Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, from 7 to 9 pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Masters is survived by his wife, Sarah Morris Masters of the home; son, Wilbur W. Masters IV and his wife, Deborah, of Gadsden, Ala; daughter, Joanne Masters Chavonne and her husband, Tony, of Fayetteville; grandsons, Samuel Masters, Grayson Chavonne and Tyson Chavonne; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Marjorie Masters Jr., and sister, Maxine Masters Walton, all of Jacksonville, Fla.

Mr. Masters was a 1959 graduate of the University of Florida. He retired from Goodyear as an executive with 36 years of service. He served as plant manager at Fayetteville Kelly-Springfield from 1978 to 1986. He was also former president of the YMCA and many other civic organizations in Gadsden, former chairman of the Boy Scouts Occoneechee Council BSA and recipient of the Sliver Beaver Award and recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. He was involved in various civic organizations including the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce, former chairman of Cape Fear Valley Board of Trustees, former board member of Fayetteville Family Life Center, former member of Cape Fear Seniors Golf Association, former board member of Highland Country Club, and a member of Social 25 Club.
Mr. Masters was a beloved, active member of Haymount United Methodist Church where he served as the chairman of the board of trustees and also as church property manager.
