Fayetteville- William F. "Bill" O'Brien, Jr., 84, has completed his course in faith, after peacefully passing Wednesday, August 31, 2016.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at 3 pm in Snyder Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. John Cook and Rev. James Baker presiding. The burial will follow in Cross Creek Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:45 to 2:45 pm in the Gathering Hall at Snyder Memorial.
Bill retired from the US Army as a Chief Warrant Officer 2 after 20 years of service. During his military career he served in Austria, Hawaii, Germany, Korea and Vietnam; service wherein he earned the Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and Bronze Star. After the Army, Bill was a purchasing manager at Fayetteville Manufacturing Corporation from 1970 to 1989. He is survived by his wife, Jean Margaret O'Brien of the home; son, William F. O'Brien III of Catawba, SC; step-children, Debra Chandler (Michael) of Fayetteville, Steven Clancy (Donna) of Princeton, Michael Clancy (Roberta) of Fayetteville, Kerry Clancy (Jeanne) of Hope Mills, Jeffrey Clancy (Barbie) of Leland, and Joan Burge (Randy) of Sanford; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
