William Jarrett
"Bill" Rasberry
March 21, 2016
William (Bill) Rasberry passed away peacefully in his home just before midnight on Sunday, March 20, 2016 due to complications from lung cancer.
He is survived by his wife Linda, daughters Sara Rasberry (Angel Garrish) of Fayetteville and Penny of Fayetteville, Fur-grandchildren Bob, Sandy, Izzie, Maude Ellen, Cadbury, and Dorothy all of Fayetteville, Sister-in-law Denise (Smith) Rasberry of Fayetteville, Nieces Heather Rasberry Raper of Fayetteville, Melissa Rasberry of Durham, and Great Niece Hailey Raper of Fayetteville. He is proceeded in death by his grandmother Ella Rasberry of Fayetteville, father and mother Edward and Clara (Webb) Rasberry, in-laws Howard and Dorothy (Cooper) Holder, brother Donald Rasberry, and daughter Lucy of Fayetteville.
Bill was born on January 25th, 1944 in Fayetteville to Ed and Clara (Webb) Rasberry. He is a graduate of Fayetteville High School and Worth's Business College. He married Linda (Holder) Rasberry on October 14, 1967.
William Rasberry was employed by Haire Plumbing Company for over 50 years and their kindness and friendship cannot be expressed in words.
Bill was an accomplished pianist with terrible stage fright and preferred playing behind a closed door. As a boy, he learned many lessons from his Grandmother. She taught him to crochet, burn gravy just right, and love the Lord. On February 18, 1954 he officially joined Second Baptist Church and saved the original bulletin in remembrance. Bill went to high school with his wife Linda and they finally decided to marry in order to argue under the same roof. In May 1982, Bill and Linda adopted their daughter Sara whom joined in the arguments as the personification of her father's worst habits. As Bill's family grew, they joined Massey Hill Baptist church where he served on various committees, co-taught his Sunday School class, sung in the choir with his wife, and was Chairman of Deacons until his death.
The Rasberry family would like to extend personal thanks to Dr. Jefferey Clarke and the entire team at Duke Cancer Center for their exemplary medical care and emotional support throughout his illness. Toward the end of his life, the amazing team at Liberty Hospice assisted Mr. Rasberry's family with his care. Special thanks to Ms. Helen as she had the most difficult job and did it the best, platinum star. The love and devotion shown by Angel Garrish was unmatched and he is proud to consider her family. Additional friends and family who's support was greatly appreciated are too numerous to list. Primarily because Bill was known by all as a frugal man that would most likely raise issue with his daughter over the length and cost of this memorial even though he requested every word. Bill was the most humble, honest, and loyal man in the world. All our lives are better for having known him.
The family will receive friends at Jernigan-Warren on Thursday, March 24th from 5-7pm. A graveside service will be held Friday, March 25th, at Cross Creek Cemetery at 1pm. Services will be moved to Jernigan-Warren Chapel in the event of rain with graveside to follow.
Bill also requested that anyone attending his funeral services come dressed in casual attire, no ties or jackets, please dress comfortably.
In lieu of flowers, Bill requests that you stop smoking and send memorial contributions to: Massey Hill Baptist Church, 1027 Southern Ave, Fayetteville, NC 28306 or Boston Terrier Rescue Team of the Carolinas (BTRTOC, Inc.), 265 Eastchester Drive, Suite 133 #315, High Point, NC 27262.
