Chief Petty Officer Retired U.S. Navy William Ernest Caulder, Sr. 83 of Fayetteville passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2015 in Duke University Hospital in Durham.

He was born on April 15, 1931 in Robeson County to the late John and Elizabeth Caulder. William was a retired Navy veteran. He was a faithful member and deacon at Massey Hill Baptist Church. He was retired civil service at Pope Air Force Base. William was preceded in death by his brothers Jay and Harley Caulder.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Massey Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Evans, officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park-West on Raeford Rd. with military honors. The family will receive friends at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home on Monday, February 2, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

He is survived by his wife, Mittie F. Caulder of the home; sons, William Ernest Caulder, Jr. of Hope Mills; Walter Earl Caulder and wife Melissa of Fayetteville; daughter, Dana Claudette Betts and husband Darin of Greensboro; brother, Carl Caulder and wife Louise of Raeford; sisters, Thelma Willoughby and husband Braxton of Red Springs; Shirley Watts Odom and husband Willie of Raeford; Frances Tyner and husband Robert of Raeford; Carol Altman and husband Bill of Cherry Grove, S.C.; sister-in-law Helen Caulder of Raeford ; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
