William Arthur Evans, 85, of Fayetteville, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
Mr. William A. Evans, son of the late Burl A. Evans Sr. and Ella W. Evans, was born on December 5, 1939, in Cumberland County, Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was an alumnus of E.E. Smith High School, class of 1957. During his high school years, William played the sport he loved, baseball and held a passion for all kinds of sports.
After graduation, William answered the call to serve his country. In 1962, he enlisted in the United States Army as an Order Parts Specialist and served until his discharge in 1966. While serving in the military, William received the following awards: Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal along with the Marksmanship Medal. His dedication, discipline, selfless sacrifice, and commitment to service remained hallmarks of his character throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Burl A. Evans Sr. and Ella W. Evans; his son, William A. Evans Il; and his daughter, Bernadette Coles, and William A. Evans III.
William leaves to cherish his memory his children: Greta Shaw-Jumper, Randolph Evans, Anthony Evans, Arlo E. Evans, Nicole A. Charles, and Terry R. Delgado; as well as his brother, Burl A. Evans Jr. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. William's legacy of love, strength, and resilience will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and cherished him.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 6 to 8 pm at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 11 am at Peace Memorial Church, 511 Cumberland St., Fayetteville.. Burial will follow at Rockfish Memorial Park, 4017 Gillespie St., Fayetteville.
