Obituary

Retired Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 William C. "Bill" Hinton, 63, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, July 2, 2011, in his home. Memorial services will be held Thursday, July 7, 2011, at 9 o'clock am in St. Andrews United Methodist Church with Dr. Gerry Davis officiating. The burial will follow at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake with military honors. Bill was a retired Army pilot with 20 years of service, during which time he fought in the Vietnam War. He received numerous awards and medals including two Bronze stars and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Following his retirement from the Army, he continued working with the Department of Defense training new pilots as a Flight Simulator Instructor at Simmons Army Air Field. He was preceded in death by his father, William M. Hinton, his mother, Ada and his step-mother, Clara. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara Hinton of the home; son, Rusty Hinton and wife Amanda of Fayetteville; daughter, Sandy Tighe and husband Michael of Fayetteville; five grandchildren, Tyler Hinton, Catherine Hinton, Alex Hinton, Hunter Tighe and Ryann Tighe; and two sisters, Jackie Clark of Cary, NC and Melony Bush and husband Frank of Frederick, MD. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the American Cancer Society or Cape Fear Valley Home Health and Hospice.
