Obituary

Dr. William Carey Miller, Jr., 84, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, passed away on September 4, 2017 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Dr. Miller was married to Connie B. Miller for 37 years until his passing.

Dr. Miller was born on September 24, 1932 to William Carey Miller, Sr. and Mary Alexander Miller in Greenville, South Carolina. Dr. Miller grew up with his brother Robert Alexander Miller, who is married to Kimberly Miller, and his sister Marilyn Feuer.

Dr. Miller is survived by his children William Carey Miller, III and his wife Phyllis Miller, Michael Bingham Miller and his wife Vernell Miller, Jennifer Miller Nicholas and her husband Theodore Nicholas, Jonathan Andrew Miller, and John Alfred Parris and his wife Meredith Parris.

Dr. Miller is also survived by his grandchildren William Christopher Miller and his wife Leigh Miller, Sarah Miller Brown and her husband Stephen Brown, Amanda Nicholas West and her husband Jacob West, Michael David Nicholas, Andrew Hayden Miller, Cody Bingham Miller, John David Parris, and Mark Alfred Parris.

Dr. Miller was previously married to Juanita Bingham Rummans.

Dr. Miller graduated from Furman University in 1954 with his B.S. in Biology. Dr. Miller began his medical career by earning his Medical Doctorate from The Medical College of South Carolina in 1958. Dr. Miller completed his medical internship at Greenville General Hospital from 1958 through 1959. He then served in US Army Medical Corps from 1959 to 1967. During his military service, Dr. Miller completed his residency and passed his radiology board examination while serving at Brooke General Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. After serving overseas, Dr. Miller honorably completed his military service at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

After obtaining his state medical certification, Dr. Miller joined Fayetteville X-ray Associates, that later became Carolina Regional Radiology, which served the community through Cape Fear Valley Hospital, Highsmith Rainey Hospital, and other regional hospitals.

Dr. Miller was a member of the American College of Radiology and the Radiological Society of North America. Dr. Miller was also a member of the North Carolina Medical Society. While attending Furman University, Dr. Miller was inducted into the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity in 1951.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 3 P.M. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home with Rev. Pricilla Durkin officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
