Willie G. Matthews, 96, of 3313 Madison Ave., Fayetteville, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 1, 2007, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with family members by his side. He was born June 6, 1910, in Castalia to the late Charles and Menda Matthews. He was the eldest of 11 children. He married Daisy Sykes in October 1931 and later came to reside in Fayetteville, where he was employed as an upholsterer for the U.S. government. He retired at age 62 and was retired 34 years before his death. Mr. Matthews was a born-again Christian and a charter member of Lakedale Church of God. He taught the men
