Obituary

Retired US Army Chief Warrant Officer 3, Wilmer "Jim" Carter, 82, of Fayetteville died Wednesday December 21, 2011. Jim was retired from the Army after more than 22 years of service including Korean and Vietnam wars. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at 10:30 am in Hope Mills United Methodist Church with Rev. Dennis Sheppard officiating. The burial will follow at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake, with military honors. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Hatcher Carter. He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Gibson of Church View, Virginia; two grandchildren, Melina Gibson and Katie Gibson; a great-granddaughter, Rebecca Allison Cullen; and one sister, Barbara Yow of California. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rolling Thunder Inc. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at 10:30 am in Hope Mills United Methodist Church with Rev.
