Mrs. Yvonne Downing Gath, 94, of Valdese, formerly of Fayetteville, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at her residence, following a period of declining health.

Yvonne was born on August 3, 1921 in Cumberland County to the late Carey Downing and Mary Jackson Downing. She was employed as a registered dietician for forty plus years, before her retirement in late 1980's. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Gath and two brothers, Carlyle and Neill Downing.

Survivors include her son, Kenneth C. Gath and wife Karen of Valdese, one daughter, Donna G. Anderson and husband Dwight of Fayetteville, one brother, C.V. Downing and wife Joy of Cedar Creek, NC and a sister in- law Pauline Yorton of St. Petersburg, FL. Also surviving are three grandchildren; Kevin and Kristin Gath and Kelley Anderson and one great-granddaughter, Kenley Milam and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 28, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Cedar Creek Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC with Dr. John Peverett officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. in Cedar Creek Baptist Church fellowship hall.
