James “Alvis” Tew, 92, of Fayetteville died Monday, September 17, 2018.
Born in Sampson County, NC, he was the son of William B. Tew and Lela Wrench Tew. He grew up on a farm and moved to Fayetteville in 1948 where he worked as Service Manager at Sears for 40 years. He was a licensed Amateur Radio Operator and enjoyed talking to other “hams” all over the United States and throughout the world.
He was preceded in death by his wife Amuline “Amy” Tew; his parents; his brother, Alfred Tew; and sisters, Viola Hollingsworth and Clestea Keene.
He is survived by his son Mike Tew (Peggy Tew) of Eastover and his daughters Cathy Schwirzke (Bob Schwirzke) and Cheryl Tew (Jamie Luna) of Fayetteville; his sisters, Ellen Benton of Fayetteville, Alma Mintz and Lena King of Clinton, NC; his grandchildren Dana Hanna (Will Hanna) of Gastonia, NC, Tripp Culbreth (Elizabeth Gardner) of Raleigh, NC, Andy Tew (Tiffany Tew) of Stedman, NC, and Cara Platt (Tony Platt) of Stedman, NC; and his great-grandchildren Micajah and Peri Hanna, Reese and Max Culbreth, Will and Lachlan Parnell, and Colton and Laney Beth Tew.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Temple Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park.
