Anne Kittinger Obituary

Anne Phillips Kittinger of Fayetteville, NC passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 9, 2021, in Jacksonville, FL. She was extraordinary, a gift to so many, and this world will not be the same without her.

Anne was born October 29, 1946, in Augusta, GA to the late Byron Howard Phillips and an incredible, steel magnolia of a mother, Ida Theodosia ("Theo") Scott Sanford.

"I grew up in the best time," she reminded us often, as she reflected back on childhood escapades and high school days at Richmond Academy. Anne was beautiful, inside and out, and so much fun. To know her was to love her. After graduation, she attended Augusta College and married Army Lieutenant Paul F. Kittinger on July 20, 1968. They traveled the world and built a wonderful life together. In the Summer of 1985, Anne and Paul moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina. Anne taught for a number of years at Fayetteville Tech and then decided to return to school for her Masters in Elementary Education. She was passionate about the importance of education, loved America and American History and taught many a fifth grader in the Cumberland County School System before retiring in 2008 to spend precious time with her children and grandchildren.

Her faith in Jesus Christ was beautiful and was the foundation of her life. She was bold about loving her family and those around her in Jesus' name. Filled with joy, she could light any room. With her sunny disposition, green thumb, gift for hospitality, and absolute passion for doing what was "right", she never stopped, especially when it involved serving others. Anne was a longstanding member of The Daughters of The American Revolution (DAR) and Bible Study Fellowship International (BSFI) and was grateful for her Sunday School Class at Snyder Baptist Church and the blessing of Dr. John Cook in Snyder's pulpit for so many years.

Preceded in death by her brother, Byron Phillips, Anne is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Cone Underwood of Augusta, GA; her daughter, Joy Kittinger Walker, and husband Paul, of Jacksonville, FL; her son, Paul "Scott" Kittinger, and wife Molly, of Fayetteville, NC; and four grandchildren, whom she loved so well, Anne Scott and Jillian Walker and Andrew "Drew" and Kathryn "Kate" Kittinger.

Her husband of 53 years, Colonel Paul F. Kittinger, passed away on September 24, 2021.

A celebration of their lives and their eternal lives with Christ will be held at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC on Friday, October 22, 2021, at 11:00 am.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am until 10:45 am. A private interment will take place at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Anne's name to The Faithful Workers Class at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, The Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove, and Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child.
