Mrs. Barbara Jean (Pittman) Williams, age 76, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and strength.
Born on October 14, 1948, in Wilmington, NC, Barbara was the middle child of John Clifton Pittman and Louise (Shaul) Pittman. She was raised in Fayetteville, NC, and attended Alexander Graham Junior High, Terry Sanford High School, and Wingate College (now Wingate University) for further education.
On November 11, 1967, she married her soulmate, Robert E. Williams, son of James Claude and Alma Louise Williams. Their extraordinary bond prevailed for more than 57 years, which is a wonderful testament to unconditional love and lifelong companionship.
As a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Barbara placed family at the heart of everything she did. Her home was a place of warmth, where every meal was homemade, every moment was treasured, and every lesson was given with care and compassion.
Barbara’s vibrant spirit shone through her many passions. She was an accomplished bowler, a spirited softball player, an unbeatable card shark, and a Jeopardy whiz among friends and family. She was a faithful member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in Fayetteville and proudly served with the Order of the Eastern Star, Long Leaf Pine Chapter #186.
Though cooking wasn’t her favorite pastime, Barbara became an expert in the kitchen, always putting others’ needs above her own. Her commitment extended beyond her family as she supported her country—both as a dedicated military spouse during the Vietnam War and later as a Government Civil Servant overseas and domestically.
A gifted painter at heart, Barbara found joy in creativity whenever time allowed. She will be remembered for her boundless generosity, nurturing spirit, and quiet strength by all those fortunate enough to have known her.
Barbara was preceded in death by her grandmother, Belma (Delaney) Schaefer; her parents, John and Louise Pittman; and her older sister, Betty (Pittman) Crabtree. She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert E. Williams; loving children, Cynthia A. Grundy (Mike) and Angelia L. McGee (Michael/deceased); and her treasured grandchildren, Rachel (McGee) Batchelor (Caleb), Jessica McGee, and Michael R. Grundy. She also leaves behind her loving sister, Peggy (Pittman) Fritz (Bruce and family), as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Barbara’s love was a comfort, her presence a joy, and her legacy a lasting inspiration. She will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of all who loved her.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, August 2nd of this year. Location for the service will be at the Old Bluff Presbyterian Church cemetery, 4100 Old Bluff Church Road, between Godwin and Wade, North Carolina.
In honor of Barbara’s wishes and in lieu of flowers and other gifts, memorial donations may be made in her name (Barbara J. Williams) to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
May she rest in eternal peace.
