Betty Kathryn Reckerd, 100, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 10, 2025—just shy of her 101st birthday—at Harmony of Hope Mills, with her loving family by her side.
Born on July 11, 1924, in Brazil, Indiana, Betty was the beloved daughter of the late Paul Clarence Deal and Minnie Lucinda Campbell. A woman of deep faith, Betty cherished her relationship with her Lord and Savior and attended the Church of The Open Door. She found great joy in fellowship, especially during the Wednesday night family meals.
Betty dedicated much of her life to serving others. She was an active member of the local AARP chapter, where she served as a past secretary, and she gave her time to the Meals on Wheels program. A talented seamstress, she was part of a sewing group that lovingly crafted quilts for the elderly as well as for infants and their mothers.
After the passing of her beloved husband, Milo Reckerd, Betty found comfort and companionship through bus trips with fellow seniors and in the quiet joy of working in her yard. She was the first-born child in her family and, remarkably, the last to leave this world.
Betty was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her warmth, strength, and unwavering love will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Lee Reckerd; daughters, Linda Ballard and husband Davey, and Mary Lou Rhodes and husband Gary; grandchildren, Geoff Reckerd, Lauren Chappell, Kimberly Hammons, Kelly Raynor, Wesley Rhodes, and Matthew Rhodes; and great-grandchildren, Davis, Shelby, Haynes, Cody, Brooke, Kendall, Charlotte, Henry, Georgia, and Virginia.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Lafayette Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to ones favorite charity.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, 545 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, N.C. 28301. Online condolences may be made at www.jerniganwarren.com.
