Bobby Harrell Obituary

Bobby Wayne Harrell, a beloved father, devoted friend, and passionate sports enthusiast, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Highsmith-Rainey Hospital. He was 74, leaving behind a rich legacy of love and kindness.

Bobby was born in Concord, North Carolina, on May 28, 1950, to the late Marvin Blair Harrell and Ruby Griffin Harrell and grew up in Parkton. He was a member of Parkton Baptist Church and retired from United Tools & Stamping after many years of devoted service. Upon retirement Mr. Harrell moved to Fayetteville to be closer to the family, in particular his daughters Michelle and Denise. He was a loving brother, father and grandfather. Mr. Harrell was a friend to all and loved by everyone that crossed his path.

Bobby was known for his quiet demeanor and kind-hearted nature. He had an unwavering passion for Carolina basketball (Roy Williams in particular), often seen sporting his team's colors and sharing his insights on game days. Fishing was another of Bobby's cherished pastimes, where he found solace and joy in the tranquility of nature. A loyal fan of NASCAR, he held a special admiration for racer Jimmie Johnson, often recounting thrilling races and blaming racer Kyle Busch for about anything that went wrong! Coffee was required at every meal, Pepsi (never Coke), was a daily “snack”, and to Bobby, sitting next to a sweet dog was like being in the presence of an angel. Bobby had a sweet yet mischievous smile, could speak a paragraph with a cut of his eyes, and was always well received by southern ladies, particularly caring nurses.

However, Bobby’s greatest pride and joy were his daughters Michelle Harrell Courie and Denise Adkins and grandchildren Taft Courie, Mary Elizabeth Courie and Steven Harrell. His love for them knew no bounds, and he dedicated his life to being a guiding light and steadfast supporter to each. Bobby’s gentle spirit and sincere advice will be deeply missed, as he had a unique ability to offer wisdom and encouragement that resonated with all who knew him.

A man of faith, Bobby drew strength from his relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and took comfort in the teachings of the Bible. His steadfast belief provided him with hope and resilience throughout his life, and he shared this faith with those around him, encouraging them to embrace love and compassion.

In his final months, Bobby faced health challenges with grace and courage. The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff of the fourth floor at Highsmith-Rainey Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion during this difficult time. Their dedication made a significant difference in Bobby’s journey and brought comfort to his family.

Bobby leaves behind a legacy of kindness, support, and unwavering love. He touched the lives of many, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. May he rest in peace, reunited with beloved family members, and forever cherished in our memories.

Survivors are daughter Michelle Courie and husband David Courie of Fayetteville, NC; daughter Denise Adkins of Stedman, NC; grandchildren, Steven Harrell, Taft Courie and Mary Elizabeth Courie; brother Horace Harrell of Fayetteville; sister Elsie Raborn of Myrtle Beach, SC; and sister Sandra McMillian of Parkton, NC.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in Fayetteville at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Dale Whichard officiating. A private burial will be held immediately afterwards at Parkton Cemetery.
