C.H. "Chuck" Shortsleeve III

SGM (Ret.) C.H. “Chuck" Shortsleeve III, 81, of Fayetteville, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

He was born April 27, 1944, in Troy, NY to Charles H. Shortsleeve, Jr. and Virginia F. Boyle.

Chuck retired from the US Army after 35 years of honorable service.  He was a Vietnam Veteran and received the following awards and decorations; Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (2nd Award), Meritorious Service Medal (7th Award), Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal (5th Award), Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal (11th Award), Combat Infantry Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Vietnam Service Ribbon with 5 stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and German Armed Forces Marksmanship Badge (Silver).

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Shortsleeve.

He is survived by his wife, Yong Shortsleeve; mother of his two daughters, Dianne Shortsleeve; daughters, Virginia Mitchell Harris (Howard) and Michelle L. Shortsleeve; grandchildren, Payden Mitchell (Kera), Orion Harris, and Douglas J. Nagy; great grandchildren, Kaycee Mitchell and Parklynn Mitchell; brother, Kevin Shortsleeve (Annie); and sister, Hollis Shortsleeve.

A private family church service will be held.  A Committal service with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 2pm at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery at Ft. Bragg, NC.
