In Loving Memory of CSM (Retired) David L. Clark Sr.

CSM (R) Clark, a beloved Patriarch, dedicated servant, and devout follower of Christ, passed away peacefully on 18 January 2024 at the age of 94. His life was a testament to unwavering commitment, faith, and service. 

Born on 12 January 1930, in Norman Park GA, CSM (R) grew up with a profound work ethic that would define his entire life. He joined the United States Army at a young age, embarking on a remarkable journey of service that spanned 70 years, with 35 years in Active Duty and another 35 years in Civilian Service. During his career, CSM (R) Clark would serve in a remarkable variety of assignments around the world.  Highlights include Long Range Patrol Company; SFODA Team Sergeant in 3rd and 5th Special Forces Group; Military Free-Fall Instructor; Command Sergeant Major assignments in 7th and 10th Special Forces Group; First Enlisted Commandant of the 18th Airborne Corps Noncommissioned Officer Academy; and First Command Sergeant Major of U.S. Central Command. He served his country with valor, proudly defending the freedom we hold so dear.

Beyond his military service, CSM (R) Clark was a man of deep faith and an ordained minister. He lived his life in accordance with the teachings of Christ, demonstrating a dedication to humility, selflessness, forgiveness, and an unwavering trust in God’s divine plan.  CSM (R) Clark deeply cherished every moment spent with family, imparting priceless lessons, and creating precious memories that will forever live in the hearts of his loved ones.

CSM (R) Clark was proceeded in death by his wife Betty, daughters Cindi and Janice, and is survived by his wife Sylvia, siblings Harry and Robbie, 4 children (Vicki, David, Betsy, Patricia), 19 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren. He was a real-life legend, whose legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 22, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at  Arran Lake Baptist Church, 1130 Bingham Dr., Fayetteville, NC 28304.  Burial will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
