Celia Elizabeth (Edwards) Yarborough

Celia Edwards Yarborough, 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021. Celia was born in New Bern on Jan. 7, 1930 to Reatha and Rufus Edwards. She moved to Fayetteville at an early age and attended Fayetteville City schools and Elon University and graduated from Methodist University with a degree in early childhood education. She was a longtime member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church and loved her Sunday school classes led by Margaret McCarthy and Gretta Hall.

Celia is survived by two daughters, Sandee Y. Waren (Marshall) and Maree Y. Harnsberger (Andy) of Fayetteville; grandsons Marshall Hughes Waren Jr. (Janet), Chad F. Yarborough (Kristen) and Trey F. Yarborough (Erin), all of Wilmington, Dax F. Yarborough of Fayetteville and Spence F. Yarborough (Michael) of Las Vegas; granddaughters Beth Harnsberger Carter (Matt) and Kathryn Harnsberger of Fayetteville;  great-grandchildren Marshall III, Griffith, Eden, Isla, Nathan, Daniel, Lily, Madison, Molly Claire and Emma Grace; and sister Hazel Anderson.  She was predeceased by son Wilson F. Yarborough, III; grandson Robert L. Waren; brother Johnny Edwards; and by her parents.

Celia was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, but most importantly, she was a devoted servant of the Lord. Her grandchildren knew her as Nanny. She enjoyed music, cooking, traveling and spending time at the beach, but nothing made her happier than being with family and friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church on Monday, Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. with a private family burial to follow. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to her caregivers Adele, Sue and Kimberly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to Snyder Memorial Baptist Church for the Youth Music Ministry, 701 Westmont Dr. Fayetteville, NC 28305 or the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 110, Fayetteville, NC 28302.
