Charles Lester Howie, 88, of Fayetteville, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2019. He was born on August 21, 1931 to Clara Wills and Samuel Massey Howie, Sr. of Fayetteville. He was preceded in death by his brothers Samuel Massey Howie, Jr. and Clifton Wills Howie, Sr. Charles is survived by his longtime friend and caregiver Philip Hester Huggins of Fayetteville and Pinehurst, brothers Marshall Craig Howie (Betty) and Robert Fulton Howie, Sr., both of Fayetteville, and several nephews and a niece.
Charles was a graduate of Fayetteville High School and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He attended East Carolina University. Charles had a long career working in various positions at Fort Bragg for the United States Federal Civil Service. After retiring, he was instrumental in forming an estate business still thriving today, Howie and Huggins Estate Sales. During the last few years, Charles had been a resident at Heritage Place Senior Living, and the family would like to express thanks to the staff there for his care.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 AM at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home on Friday, September 27. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 AM in LaFayette Memorial Park.
