Donald Lionel Melvin, 86, of Fayetteville passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021, at his residence with his family by his side.
Donald was born on November 15, 1934, in Cumberland County to the late Joseph Gray Melvin and Elizabeth Horne Melvin. He was a member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church and a past member of Culbreth Memorial United Methodist Church.
He was the longtime comptroller with Cape Fear Building Supply. His preferred job was a golfer and he spent many hours on courses with Doctor Newman’s Wednesday Group and the Saturday Highland Country Club 8am group with Frank Mullin, Harold Holmes, Hooper Hall, Harry Horrocks, Sid Lovette, and Greg Allen. His Sunday job for many years was Sunday School Teacher and he filled that role with joy and happiness. Enjoying the Red Sox and Panthers was a favorite hobby for him.
