Mr. Donald “Don” “Donnie” Edward Lundy, 71, of Fayetteville, NC passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Don was born March 20, 1953, in Cumberland County, NC, to the late Donald Wilson Lundy and Dorothy Doris Canady. He received his B.S. in Math Education from NC State University and his M.Ed. in Curriculum and Supervision from East Carolina University. He was a math teacher in the Cumberland County School System for 36 years, teaching in several middle and high schools.
Don was a longtime member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, serving in a number of ways through the years—a deacon, choir member, RA director, Sunday School teacher, Carpentry Ministry volunteer. For many years, he was an involved Lion's Club member, filling various offices in both the Hope Mills and Fayetteville chapters. After retirement from teaching, he also became active in the Cumberland County Retired School Personnel Association.
Don enjoyed watching college sports, especially his beloved NC State Wolfpack. He also enjoyed traveling, golfing, music, genealogy research, and reading, particularly political history.
Don is survived by his wife of 48 years, Norma Heath Lundy; son Kyle Edward Lundy of Carrboro, NC; son Nathan Heath Lundy of Fayetteville; sister Deanne Lundy Wheeler (Stephen) of Fayetteville; many nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends Monday, August 19, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. in the Gathering Hall of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, 701 Westmont Drive, Fayetteville, NC. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. in the church Sanctuary. (Feel free to wear a little red to honor his memory. Go Wolfpack!)
