Doris Edmundson Obituary

Doris Magness Edmundson, 93 of Fayetteville, NC passed away on Friday, March 19, 2021 in her home.

She was born July 1, 1927 in Bailey, N.C. to Edna Sanders and Oliver Eatmon.  As a youngster, she happily played with her friends and cousins in the fields and woods around her Aunt Maggie’s farm, but the onset of the war years saw her and her mother moving with her stepfather, Harold Magness, to naval bases in Virginia and California.  Later returning to Wilson, N.C., she was able to experience some stability, form lasting friendships and become a proud graduate of Charles L. Coon High School.  For a short time she was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Washington, D.C.  In 1952, she married Andrew Edmundson and the family soon moved to Fayetteville, N.C. where both took jobs in civil service at Fort Bragg.  After a few years, she left the world of work for full-time family raising.

Smart and personable, Doris did well at most any activity she took on, whether local politics or hospital volunteer work, but, a word to the wise – she was very direct with a sharp sense of humor and would not hesitate to speak her mind if the spirit moved her.  Until Andrew’s passing in 2003, the couple enjoyed travelling to visit friends in various locales, but particularly to the playground of bright lights and dry heat – Las Vegas.

Doris is survived by her sons, Dennis Edmundson, Raleigh, N.C. and Robert Edmundson, Fayetteville, N.C. who would like to thank the staffs of Cape Fear Valley Hospice and Home Instead for their assistance and care during these last days.
