Doris Taylor McPhail Williams, born on June 30, 1931, passed away surrounded by “her girls” on April 27, 2021. She was 89 and gorgeous.
She was born on a farm in Sampson County to the late William H. Taylor and Nula Currie Taylor. Her late grandmother, Rosie Taylor, was - and will always remain - her inspiration.
Doris was Co-Owner and Operator of “The Pilgrim Gifts and Antiques” with her best friend and sister, Carolyn Naylor, for 35 years.
She lived a life of glamour, kindness, strength, generosity, friendship, hilarity, capability, gentleness, and spirituality. Doris was known for her stylish “black, white, and a touch of red” ensemble. (A red lip goes a long way.)
Doris was preceded in death by her husbands, William C. McPhail and Clayton S. Williams; siblings W.H., Erma, Isolene, Esther, and Donald; and bonus daughter, Dale Williams.
Surviving are her daughters, Jill McPhail DeVore, Jamie McPhail and husband Tom Laney; sister, Carolyn Naylor and husband Raymond; grandchildren, Katherine Gilliard and Mason McPhail Laney; numerous nieces and nephews; bonus children, Debra Williams Gandy and husband Harry, Clayton Williams and wife Susan, Cliff Williams and wife Sidney, Darla Williams Moore and husband Carl; numerous bonus grandchildren and great grandchildren.
