Edna Pittman Obituary

 

 

Edna Earle Moore Pittman, 93, of Fayetteville, died at her home on Friday, September 3, 2021 after a short illness this summer.

She was born on June 19, 1928 to Benjamin Robert and Effie Hobgood Moore in Greene County, NC.

Mrs. Pittman was a 1944 graduate of Walstonburg High School where she sang in the chorus and played on the girls’ basketball team. She then attended the NC School of Cosmetology in Raleigh. She was a hairdresser in Tarboro after she married. She also worked for Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company for several years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Tarboro where she sang in the choir. In 1956, she and her family moved to New Bern, NC. There they attended First Baptist Church. Mrs. Pittman served as a leader for Sunbeams and Girl’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed ceramics classes, sewing, and crocheting. After moving to Fayetteville in 1963, the family joined Snyder Memorial Baptist Church. Her many friendships in the Mission Action group and her Sunday School Class were especially cherished. She was a weekly volunteer at Cape Fear Valley Hospital. She served for over 40 years as a “Pink Lady” delivering mail, flowers, magazines, snacks and hospitality to patients and their visitors. She served as Assistant Director for several years.

She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Curtis Cherry Pittman, in 2011, and her infant son, Curtis Cherry Pittman, Jr. in 1958; her two sisters, Gladys Moore Pittman of Eden, and Katura Moore Brock of Tarboro; her two brothers, Horace Moore of Farmville, and Herbert Moore of Farmville, also predeceased her.

Mrs. Pittman is survived by her two daughters, Paula Pittman Johnson of Trinity, and Pamela Pittman Woolen of the home. She leaves five grandchildren, Matt Woolen, and wife, Candas; Scott Johnson, and wife, Kerri; Chris Johnson, and wife, Amber; Kimberly Johnson Gay, and husband, Mark; Tom Johnson, and wife, Tina. She had nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Her last surviving sister, Geraldine Moore Bentley, resides in Brookhaven, PA. She was also blessed with numerous nieces and nephews who enjoyed many family reunions and celebrations with her throughout the years.

Visitation with family and friends is planned for Thursday, September 9, at 1:00 PM in the Gathering Hall at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM in the church chapel. The graveside service will be in Tarboro at Edgecombe Memorial Park on Friday, September 10 at 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Snyder Memorial Baptist Church Library, the Carpentry Ministry of Snyder, or Fayetteville Area Operation Inasmuch.
