LTC(R) Edward Russell (Russ) Throckmorton passed away on October 23, 2021 at the age of 79. He was the son of General(R) John L. and Regina Throckmorton.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Katherine (Kitty) Throckmorton-he liked to tell people it was 53 long, arduous years. He is also survived by sons, Chris (Laura) Throckmorton of Corolla, NC and Russ (Nancy) Throckmorton of Hampstead, NC. He dearly loved his brothers: MAJ (R) Tom Throckmorton (Ann) of Richmond, VA, LTC (R) John Throckmorton (Janice) of Atlanta, GA and David Throckmorton of Richmond, VA. He has 6 grandchildren who made him proud every day. And there were lots of beloved nieces and nephews. We know he will be watching over all of us.
Russ spent 29 years in the Army. After retirement he was a broker associate with Homeowners LTD and ReMax until he retired from real estate sales and founded K&R Properties of Fayetteville, a rental management company along with his son, Russ.
As much as Russ loved his family, he loved soldiers. The men he served with were so special to him but he loved all soldiers-OK, Airborne soldiers-just a tad more.
In a country full of heroes, he was ours. He loved us with a warrior’s fierceness, he made us stronger, he made us better, he made us laugh. We say good-bye with gratitude!
Some of his medals include: The Silver Star, Bronze Star with V device, Army Commendation Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Gold Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Pathfinder and Senior Parachute Badge to name just a few.
The family loves this quote and thinks it is the perfect one to express our beliefs: “I think sometimes a person’s spirit is so strong that it never completely leaves the Earth but remains scattered forever among all those who love them” author: Chris Crandall
We will always miss you but will also be grateful that you were in our lives. Rest in Peace.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date. Burial with full military honors will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude’s or The Humane Society.
