Gilda (Cain) Horne

Gilda Cain Horne, 93, of Fayetteville passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2024, surrounded by her family. 

Gilda was born on October 13, 1930, in Cumberland County to the late Katie McLaurin Cain and Aaron Cain.

At a young age she became a hairdresser and later the owner and operator of Gilda’s Beauty Shop where she worked for over 50 years.

She enjoyed working in her yard and spending time at Surf City Beach with her friends and family.

Gilda was a strong-willed woman and never said No! When faced with a challenge she would always say, “I can do it”. She was very generous and giving and will be missed by all who knew her.

The family will receive friends from 11-11:50 on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Salem Methodist Church followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 12 noon.  Burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park.

In addition to her parents, Gilda was preceded in death by her husband, C.W. “Bob” Horne; granddaughter, Erin Johnson; sister, Mary Owens, brother, Earl Cain; and son-in-law, Robbie Johnson.

She is survived by her son, Mark Cain Horne of Lincolnton; daughter, Brenda Horne Johnson of Fayetteville; grandson, R. Stephen Johnson, Jr. and wife, Sara; great granddaughters, Sadie Johnson and Sloane Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews; and great nieces and great nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Methodist Church. 2165 Middle Rd., Fayetteville, NC 28312
