Gregory Neil Malson

Gregory Neil Malson was born January 7, 1961 to Jimmie Sue and Rex Malson. He graduated from Walton High School in Marietta, Georgia in 1979. After traveling for a time, he enlisted in the Army where he served as an Airborne Ranger for four years. He then relocated to the San Francisco Bay area where he earned his undergraduate degree from California State University and continued his education at Golden Gate University School of Law.  He had the privilege of being selected for law review and graduated with his Doctor of Jurisprudence. He chose to again serve his country and was commissioned into the Army as an officer in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps and served 22 years more years.

He leaves behind wife, C.J. Miller Malson, daughter Caitlin Malson Lerario (Harrison), granddaughter Miller Louise Lerario, son Rex Malson II (Amanda), and brother Richard Malson. He is preceded in death by son, Ian Malson, his parents and various other family members.

Greg led a life of integrity, honor, and kindness. He nurtured many other "third sons" and "second daughters" throughout his lifetime. Greg was an avid outdoorsman, loved traveling with his partner of 39 years, as well as many camping trips and travels with his children. He was a 33rd degree Mason and was lovingly referred to as the GOAT by his close circle.

Though our family is devastated by the loss of our hero and leader, we know he is reunited with Ian and his parents in the next life.

Greg will be remembered and celebrated at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home on Saturday, June 28th at 1:00 PM, followed by a reception at District House of Taps from 3:00-5:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Ducks Unlimited, Clayton,  or theamericanflagproject.org We would also like to thank Cape Fear Hospice, especially his nurse Angelica, for seeing us through a most difficult time.
