Harris Ray Heustess, 91, of Bladenboro, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Friday, June 4, 2021.
Harris was born on April 16, 1930 in Columbus County to the late Edgar Rufus and Jeanette Devane Heustess.
As a young man, Harris worked in the shipyard at Newport News, VA before returning home to begin his lifelong career as a farmer. He was an excellent carpenter and enjoyed woodworking, especially building birdhouses. He was a long-time member of New Center Baptist Church where he served many years as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and Song Leader. He was a very generous man and was always willing to lend a hand and serve others, expecting nothing in return.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Rufus, John and James Heustess; sisters, Charlotte Savage and Betty Lou Heustess; and son, Ronnie W. Heustess.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 67 years, Margaret Bass Heustess; sons, Larry Heustess and wife, Debbie, and Eddie Heustess and fiance’, Terisa; daughter, Margaret Storms and husband, Craig; daughter-in-law, Sonya Heustess; sisters, Bertha Dennis, Mary Packer and husband, John Wayne; brother, Robert Heustess and wife, Janie, sister-in-law, Barbara Heustess; grandchildren, Marietta Chewning and husband, Kevin, Lydia Hall and husband, Brian, Laikyn Heustess, Erica Parks and husband, Austin, Jeramie Heustess, Lonnie Heustess and wife, Samantha, Leighanna Todd, and husband, Ryan, Kayla Wright and husband, Alfie, Austin Storms and wife, Alyssa; great grandchildren, Anna, Samara, Thomas, Cooper, Carleigh, Nora, Lailah, Morgan, Xander, Kennedy, Lennox, Joseph, Jensen, Eli, Finn, Jackson, Dawson, Katie, Braylee, Harrison, and Levi.
The family will receive friends on Sunday evening, June 6, 2021 from 5 to 7 pm at New Center Baptist Church in Bladenboro. A Celebration of his life will be held on Monday, June 7, 2021 at 2 pm at the church. Burial will follow in the Western Prong Baptist Church in Whiteville.
