Herbert Matharis Bryant, 91 long-time resident of Grays Creek and most recently Carolina Highlands, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 11, 2022.
Funeral service will be at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 18 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street with full military honors.
Herbert retired from the US Air Force after 21 years of service with the rank of Major. After later retiring from his second career at DuPont, Herbert pursued his hobbies of furniture-making and gardening.
Herbert was an active member at Snyder Memorial Baptist church for 49 years and participated in their Operation InAsMuch community service work and bicycle repair. He also volunteered for several years at the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens.
Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Duncan Bryant; and sisters Imogene Tyson, Gladys Collie, and Willa Mae Joyner.
Herbert is survived by son Michael and wife Lynn; daughters Pamela Murdoch and husband Jerald; Carol Strickland; grandchildren Andrew Bryant and wife Sarah, Heather Bryant, Jason Murdoch, Eric Murdoch and wife Shannon; and great-grandson Duncan Bryant.
Memorials may be made to either Snyder Memorial Baptist Church or Cape Fear Botanical Gardens.
