Horace Britt

Mr. James “Horace” Britt, 96, of Fayetteville, N.C., died Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Horace was born June 19, 1928, in Robeson County, N.C., to the late Robert Byrd Britt and Myrtle Pate Britt. Horace was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl “Jean” Britt, and his siblings Robert Britt and David Britt of Lumberton, N.C., and Joyce Britt Pounds of Martin, Tenn.

Horace is survived by his daughter, Sue Britt Kutz and husband Paul of Rock Hill, S.C.; son, Larry Britt and wife Patt of Alpine, Utah; daughter Nancy Britt McCraw of Moore, S.C., and son-in-law Johnny McCraw of Gaffney, S.C.; and daughter Samantha Britt of Fayetteville.

Horace has six grandchildren, Paul B. Kutz of Rock Hill, S.C., Alex McCraw of West Columbia, S.C., Amy McCraw Guinn and husband Nick of Spartanburg, S.C., Danielle Kutz Sedory and husband Sam of Charlotte, N.C., Rachel Britt Ruiz and husband Anthony of Charlotte, N.C., and Aaron Britt and fiancée Caroline Sigmon of New York City. He also has five great-grandchildren, Ivy Kutz of Rock Hill, S.C., Lula Armstrong, Penelope Guinn, Madeline Guinn of Spartanburg, S.C. and Sienna Ruiz of Charlotte, N.C.    

A lifelong and dedicated employee since his early 20s at Player, Inc., a commercial general contractor, Horace served as estimator and project manager at the company and continued to visit the office until 2020. Other than his family and work, one of his greatest joys was following the UNC Tarheels basketball program.

Following the celebration of life service in the Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel, beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, the family will receive friends.
