Hwa Cha (Pak) Martin

My dear mother, Hwa Cha Martin, sadly passed away on June 14, 2025 at the age of 90 at her home in Fayetteville, NC surrounded by her family.  She was born in South Korea, and she became a U.S. citizen after moving to Fayetteville and marrying Glenn Martin, her husband of 56 years. 

Hwa Cha was also known by many names: Yeobo (honey/darling), Momma, Mema,  and Eonni (sister). The love of her life, Glenn E. Martin, preceded her in death as did her 4 sisters and 1 brother.  She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Pate and husband, Pat of Winston-Salem; her grandsons, Will and Andrew; her brother, Chong Pil Pak and wife, Yea Saeng of Hawaii; her brother-in-law, Frank Martin and wife Jo of Alabama, and many nieces and nephews in Hawaii, South Carolina, Florida, Indiana, and California. She was blessed by having many friends including her best friend, Pong McKibben, whom she had known since she was 16 years old; and Amy Hodges, who provided countless hours of companionship.  Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she loved, and she will never be forgotten.

Mom and dad shared their love of sports, especially the Carolina Tarheels.  Mom was a great chef, her specialties were Korean soups and banana bread/cake.  She loved to fish, and loved all seafoods. 

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Liberty Hospice & Homecare; caregivers, Joy Small and Elisha Williams; and the Korean Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held with the family at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, Fayetteville, NC on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 am; a Korean/American memorial service will follow in the Jernigan-Warren Chapel.
