Jessie “J.B.” DeVane, 84, of Fayetteville passed away on Monday, June 28, 2021 at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn, NC with his beloved family by his side.
J.B. was born October 22, 1936 in White Oak, NC to the late Duel Strickland and Junie Franklin DeVane.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill, Cecil, and Odis DeVane.
He served his country as a veteran in the U.S. Army.
J.B. was a retired Police Officer with the City of Fayetteville and a retired Security Officer with Sears.
J.B. was a faithful member of First Baptist Church where he was the last surviving lifetime deacon. He served his church faithfully as the Church Clerk, Choir Member, Secretary for the Youth Department, Royal Ambassadors, and the Building and Grounds.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church with Reverend Robert James, officiating. Burial will follow the service at Cross Creek Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the Church in Memorial Lounge from 12:30-2:00 pm on Thursday.
J.B. is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Brenda Sherman DeVane; daughters, Beverly DeVane Cooper and husband Laurin, Alyson DeVane Pennell and husband Mark; son, Jay DeVane; brothers, J.F. DeVane and wife Edith, Danny DeVane and wife Alice, Vernon DeVane and wife, Linda; sisters, Dot Tatum, Faye McCormick, Noter Lee Short; grandchildren, Jaymeson DeVane, Jessi Brown, Lyndsi Brown, Brendan and Cameron Cooper.
