Jack Marshall Propst, 80, of Fayetteville passed away peacefully Sunday April 13, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Jack was born April 20, 1944, in Newton, North Carolina to the late Nellie and Claude Propst.
After graduating from Newton High School, he joined the United States Army, which landed him in Fayetteville. This is where he met the love of his life, Gail . Jack and Gail got married on May 24, 1966. Early in their marriage, Jack was sent off to fight in the Vietnam War. During his military career, they were stationed at Ft. Bragg, and three tours in Germany. Jack and Gail eventually landed back at Ft. Bragg after several moves back and forth and decided to make Fayetteville their home.
Jack retired from the Army in 1992, after 31 years of honorable and faithful service to our nation. Even after his retirement, being a part of the military community was extremely important to him. Following his retirement, he went on and worked at Heilig-Meyers Furniture store, as a warehouse manager and then for Bonitz Flooring. Being a part of Bonitz Flooring, he became the project manager at Ft. Bragg to fulfill military contracts. He enjoyed being able to be among those still in their military career. That gave him a sense of still being a part of the military, which he loved.
Apart from his military life, he took great pride in his family. He loved his wife and children dearly and would never pass up an opportunity to spend time with them. When he and his wife, Gail, were both at Village Green Nursing and Rehab you could always find him sitting by her bed. He never wanted to leave her side.
In his free time, Jack enjoyed going fishing or even spending time around his house feeding his birds. He would always ensure all his bird feeders were always full.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 59 years, Gail; sons, Rick Propst (Darla) and Ronnie Propst (Karen); sisters-in-law, Joyce Kovolenko and Lisa Cross (Tony) and his furry companion, Little Bit and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Donald Propst; sister-in-law, Shirley Gilbert; brother-in-law, Lee Croom and his mother-in-law, Ruby Irene Croom.
The family will receive friends at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home Tuesday May 20, 2025, at 12:30pm. Burial with full military honors will follow at Sandhills State Veteran Cemetery at 2pm.
