Mr. James Milton Bass Sr., 84, of Fayetteville passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020 at his home surrounded by family. He was born in Sampson County on June 15, 1936 to the late Lonnie D. and Tempie J Bass. He was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters, the Rev. Bernice G. Bass Newberry Bass, Crafton D. Bass, Johnson Bass, Howard Bass, Shelton Bass, Lonnie Bass, Crotia Blanchard, Irma Peterson, and Alease Compton.
Milton graduated from North Carolina State University in 1958. He was a teacher for five years and was the director of Cumberland Sheltered Workshop for thirty years. Milton owned a sporting goods store for many years. His love for God’s creation of animals, especially buffalo, prompted him to open Jambbas Ranch, which he ran for years. He was an active member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. Through the ups and downs of life, his faith never wavered.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anna Jean Bass of Fayetteville; one brother Carl G. Bass of Clinton; one sister, Alice Royal of Salemburg; five children, Sabrina Gibson and husband, Marvin of South Riding, Virginia, Becky Connor and husband David of Granite Falls, North Carolina, and Anita Vestal and husband Mark, Beth Brock and husband Craig, and James M. Bass II and wife Sandy, all of Fayetteville; sixteen grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.
He was a loving husband, dad, brother, son, uncle, papa, and friend to all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Cedar Creek Baptist Church, 4170 Tabor Church Road, Fayetteville North Carolina, 28312.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 13, 2020 with Pastor Jeff Buchanan officiating.
