James Martin Wilkinson, 84, of Fayetteville, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Born on November 30, 1941, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, James was the son of the late World War II veteran Sidney and Myrtle Wilkinson.
James had a lifelong passion for helping others and was always willing to lend a hand wherever it was needed. He enlisted in the United States National Guard and proudly served his country. In his later years, he devoted his time to volunteering at the St. Matthews United Methodist Church thrift store.
He dedicated over 35 years of service as a postal carrier with the United States Postal Service. Throughout his career, he drove more than one million miles delivering mail across Cumberland County, demonstrating remarkable commitment and reliability.
James lived a simple and meaningful life, finding joy in life’s everyday pleasures. He took great pride in maintaining his yard and enjoyed spending time outdoors.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy.
He is survived by his daughter, Tina Wilkinson; his brother, Sidney Wilkinson; and his sister, Catherine Parker.
A graveside service will be held Monday, March 23, 2026 at 1pm at Lafayette Memorial Park West.
