Jean (Sewell) Johnson

Jean S. Johnson, 92, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord on July 16, 2025. 

Born on July 13, 1933, in Sampson County to the late Arthur and Lela Sewell. Jean lived a remarkable life filled with immense faith, love and joy that touched all who knew her. 

Jean was a devoted and loving wife of 53 years to her husband Rufus Johnson who preceded her in death.  She was nurturing, Godly mother to her children, Warren Johnson, who preceded her in death, Terri Riddle (Phillip), and Scott Johnson (Robin).  Her greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren, April Hall (Marty), Ryan Hart (Summer), Kortni Johnson, Amber Douthit (Chris), Brandon Hart (Reva), Morghan Johnson (Christy), Joseph Riddle (Morgan), Kristiona Johnson, and Heaven Johnson.  Her great-grandchildren were blessed to call her grandma.  Paiten, Rylee, Dalltyne, Harper, Kynlee, Warren and Zaliyah will cherish the times they had with her.

She was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 4 brothers.  She is survived by her sister, Ann Mayhew.

Besides her family, gardening was her true passion.  She loved to be outside, “piddling” and tending to her yard and flowers.  She had a green thumb that most would envy.  She was an amazing cook and has made more biscuits than you can count.  If you’ve never had her frosted pound cake… well, you missed out!

She loved her Lord.  She loved her family. She loved all God’s people.  May we all strive to love like she did.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 20, 2025, from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025, at 11 am at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.  Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, we would be deeply grateful for donations to the Warren Johnson Scholarship at Campbell University, by way of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.
