It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jennifer Pittman Basham, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, friend and teacher who died peacefully at the age of 50 after a courageous battle with cancer. She passed on March 22, 2026, surrounded by her loving friends and family.
Jennifer was born on February 3, 1976, the daughter of the late Bruce Howell Pittman and Karen Herring Pittman. A proud graduate of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, she was a devoted English teacher for over 20 years. She inspired countless students with her passion, kindness, unwavering dedication, and impressive knowledge of literature including her special love for Shakespeare.
Outside of the classroom, she found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. She was an avid reader that enjoyed spending time at the beach and always looked forward to her next trip to Disney World. Above all, her happiest times were spent with her family and being a mom to Reagan who was her pride and joy. She found joy surrounding herself with her friends, spending time riding horses and loving her dogs.
She will be remembered for her love of friends and family, her warmth, her intelligence, her witty humor and her quiet strength. Even in the face of illness she carried herself with grace and dignity.
She is survived by her husband, Brian Basham; their daughter, Reagan; and her mother, Karen Herring Pittman.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 1:30 pm at Arran Lake Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Jeff Isenhour. A private burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park..
