Jenny Susan Davis

Jenny Susan Davis, 69, passed away in her home in Fayetteville, after a two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family in her last moments of life. 

Jenny is survived by her daughter, Cara Maria De Luca Whittington (Alfonzo) (Fayetteville); her son John Edward Cory De Luca (Venice, FL); three treasured grandsons, Damon Kendrick Herring, Devin Raeshawn Ross, and James “Jay” Bethune, Jr.; six great grandsons: Daylen Kamden “Kam” Briley, Damon Kendrick Herring, Jr., twins Karter Sebastian and Kayden Ace Maddox, Dayson Kai Herring and Lorenzo Thomas Ross; one great granddaughter, Delaya Grace       Herring, all of Fayetteville. She is also survived by one sister, Carol Gayle Davis (Mt. Laurel, NJ); one brother, David Mark Davis (Hope Mills); one special sister-in-law, Nancy Jean Davis (Browns Mills, NJ); nephews, Scott Nixon (Mt. Laurel, NJ), Jerry Theus “JT” Davis (Pattie) (Lumberton, NJ) and Phillip “Manix” Powell (Hope Mills); two nieces: Traci Witten (Mt Laurel, NJ) and Jessica Powell (Hope Mills). Jenny was preceded in death by her father Theus Davis, her mother Carolyn Lewis Davis, sister Vickie Karen Powell, brother Jerry Wayne Davis and nephew Dustin Seabrook Powell.

Jenny, affectionately called Susie by her mother, was born on November 6, 1954, in Fort Benning, GA to Theus and Carolyn Davis. Her family settled in Fayetteville, NC when her father retired from the US Army at Ft. Bragg. She graduated from Douglas Byrd High School and Fayetteville Technical Community College. She later attended Sandhills Community College and Campbell University. Jenny was one with nature. She strongly believed in the healing power of plants and surrounded herself with them, both at work and at home. Jenny chose work that allowed her to share her knowledge and passion with others. She enjoyed her career as a Horticulture Therapist and Educator at McCain Prison Hospital. She also had a plant business called Indigo Ridge Nurseries. She built three large greenhouses and kept them full of lush greenery and colorful flowers. During the Spring and Summer months, Jenny would take her best plants to Greensboro to sell at the Farmer’s Market. She often spoke of seeing the joy that her plants brought to others. Jenny was also very active in church over the years. She loved the Lord with all her heart and offered her angelic voice and musical talents in her worship. After Jenny’s retirement from the state, she began volunteering her time in her daughter’s real estate office. She vacationed with her siblings and spent a lot of time just  loving on her children, grandsons and great-grandchildren. She taught us that true beauty is found in strength and that true love is known through sacrifice. She was strong and tough, yet sweet and soft. She was truly one of a kind and beautifully easy to love. Jenny will be missed, loved and honored forever by those who knew her.

Jenny will be laid to rest on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Macedonia Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 3269 Candor-Troy Rd., Biscoe, NC 27209 at 10:00 am. Graveside service only.
