Jerry Wayne Shore, 77, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Valley Hospice House.
Born in Boone, North Carolina, to the late Ernest Shore and Doris Hayes Shore, Jerry spent his early years working at the family sawmill. That strong work ethic and love for hands-on work stayed with him throughout his life. After relocating to Fayetteville, Jerry founded his own sawmill—work he often said brought him the greatest joy.
Known for his quick wit and infectious sense of humor, Jerry was affectionately called the “Hill Billy” by many who knew and loved him. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, pawpaw, and friend, who found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—tinkering with his lawnmower (his beloved “tractor”), helping his best friend and neighbor, Henry, in the yard, chatting with his favorite girl, Tanner, and fishing with his grandsons.
Jerry proudly served his community as a sergeant with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department before retiring. He also served his country honorably with the U.S. Army and will be laid to rest with military honors.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Chalker; his grandson, Bama Shore; his sister, Wanda Craine; and his nephew, Joshua Owen.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kim Owen Shore; his children: Jerry Shore, Jr., Dawn Chalker, Brittany Edge, Tanner Edge, and Katherine Cox; his brother, Alton Shore; grandchildren: Ayden, Jayce, Jaden, Niki, Brook, Little Jerry, Nani, Lilly, Steven, Kacie, Cody, Toby, and Joey; brother-in-law Mike Owen, and Billy Owen (Patty), as well as his special nephew who he considered to be his son, Randy Huff, and several other beloved great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. A service will follow at 12:00 noon in the chapel. Burial with military honors will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
Arrangements by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, 545 Ramsey St., Fayetteville, N.C. 28301.
