Jerry Lee Strout, 77, of Fayetteville, NC, died Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the UNC Medical Center, Chapel Hill, NC.
Jerry was born April 18, 1947, in Milbridge, ME, to the late Herbert C. Strout and Phyllis D. Chipman. He was a Veteran of the US Army, where he was drafted at 18, served in Vietnam and Desert Storm (Persian Gulf I), then retired in 1993. He then worked at The Mill in Erwin, NC. When he left he worked as a mechanic with one of his lifetime friends Mr. Alvin. From there he worked at the tire center of Walmart, then Lowe's on Ramsey in Fayetteville. He was an amazing husband to Connie Diane Gibson Strout, a wonderful father, and a great friend. Many say he had a heart of gold; others say he was definitely the Patriarch of his family. Many loved him as a coworker and even more as a customer. He always showed respect and had everyone at ease plus laughing at moments they didn't feel like it. Where he always said his wife was a diamond angel on earth, everyone says he's a gem of uniqueness himself. There are people that ask about him when they see his family because they miss the man in jeans and neon shirts/sweatshirts doing his daily walks (3 times a day that ran from 10,000 steps to 15,000) same route. The stores he shops miss his wonderful smile and quirkiness. Jerry and Connie adopted their children's friends as they grew up, so many call him dad/pops/grandpa/Papaw.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife, his sister Margaret Strout, and his beautiful baby great granddaughter Amethyst Luna Moore.
Jerry is survived by his daughters, Stacy L. Strout and Andrea Strout with her partner Jeff; stepdaughters, Dawn Galindo and Evelyn Wilson with her husband Daniel; stepson, Bradley Sutter; brother, Terry Strout with his wife, Kwin Black, his niece Shelley Martel and her family and nephew Stephen Strout and his own family and Kristen Strout, as well as Christopher Beckmann (everyone knows of him as his adopted family); and grandchildren: Michael and Kayleigh (Stacy), Mia Lynn (Andrea) with Her partner Brad Moore, Conner Galindo and Brendan Galindo (Dawn), and Olivia Wilson (Evelyn).
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 31, 2024, from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, with a graveside service beginning at 11:00am at the Fort Liberty Main Post Cemetery with full military honors.
