Jimmie Barefoot Obituary

Jimmie Ann McFayden Barefoot was born May 28, 1948, to Jimmy Walter McFayden and Mary Francis Hall McFayden. Jimmie also had an incredibly special relationship with her grandmother, Alice Owens Hall, who lived to the ripe old age of one-hundred-and-two. As a child, Jimmie and her sister, Carolyn Novak, sang together on WFLB Television station as the Little McFayden Sisters.  She married her soulmate on March 6, 1970, and spent fifty-four years with the love of her life, Billy Ray Barefoot (“Bill”). Bill and Jimmie traveled the world, moving twenty-nine times and living in six different states and even another country at one point.

Bill taught Jimmie how to play golf at Cross Creek Country Club in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, and it quickly became her favorite pastime especially when she started beating him at the very game that he taught her to play!  She was the Women's Club Champion at Texarkana Country Club and the Shreveport Women’s Open runner-up in 1996, amongst five different states competing.

Jimmie had a great love for music and was very involved in multiple church choirs, including the Singing Christmas Tree at Snyder Memorial Church. Jimmie and Bill shared a love for dancing, always finding a way to “cut a rug”.  Any time there was a dance nearby, they could be found on the dance floor.

Jimmie was known for her charitable mindset, having volunteered in many communities from school events for her children, substitute teaching, golf charities, church events, an orphanage in China and hospital nurseries. She always had a soft spot for babies, shown by her dedication to volunteering at hospital nurseries where she lovingly rocked babies in the NICU, and by her volunteer work at an orphanage in China where she brought joy to forgotten children.

Jimmie was incredibly proud to be a mother to three successful daughters, Leigh Ann, Renae, and Jennifer. She enjoyed all facets of motherhood, and was incredibly dedicated to her children, always putting them at the forefront of her life. Beyond being a mother, Jimmie had nine grandchildren that were her whole world. Jimmie also had two great-grandchildren that she, unfortunately, did not get the opportunity to love and enjoy as she was robbed of her livelihood by the evil disease, we all know as Alzheimer’s. Jimmie fought her disease for over thirteen years, with the love of her life rarely leaving her side, but lost her fight on June 24, 2024, in the home that Bill built for them on the land that once was her playground as a child.  Jimmie leaves behind their three daughters, Leigh Ann Barefoot (Audie) Longfellow, Renae Barefoot (Tom) Ramthun, Jennifer Barefoot (Bryan) Hannum, nine grandchildren, Alex Perez, Alison Perez (Trevor) Roach, Spencer (Haley) Ramthun, Reed Ramthun, Sydney Ramthun, Ashton Hannum, Braylen Hannum, Addison Hannum, Marleigh Hannum, two great-grandchildren Liam Ramthun, Roen Roach, her sister, Carolyn McFayden (Lloyd) Novak, and three nieces, Terrie, Pam, and Robin, extended family and  so many great friends throughout her life.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Fayetteville Memorial Cemetery.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

Where there is injury, pardon;

Where there is despair, hope;

Where there is darkness, light;

And where there is sadness, joy.
