It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Jo-Ann McLean Capps, on March 11, 2025, at the age of 87. A private woman who found joy in the quiet moments of life, Jo-Ann was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, whose love and strength will forever be cherished by those closest to her.
Born to John Wilton and Gladys McLean in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Jo-Ann led a life marked by quiet dignity and unwavering devotion to her family and Church. She was a lifetime member of the Palestine Presbyterian Church. While she kept much of her life private, those who knew her well experienced her warmth, kindness, and deep sense of care.
Jo-Ann is survived by her three sons, Tim Capps and wife Nancy, Dave Capps and wife Vanji, and Steve Capps and wife Suong; her six grandchildren, Timmy, Chrissy (Ralph), Craig, Austin (Kayleigh), Jackie and Kelley; her seven great grandchildren, Chase, Hunter, Paisley, Liam, Rileigh, Caleb and Autumn; her younger sister, Lila Nicholson (Nick); in-laws, nephews, nieces, and close friends who will hold her memory dear.
Jo-Ann is preceded in death by her husband, Hubert "Monroe" Capps; her father John Wilton and mother Gladys; three brothers, Wayne McLean, Jerry McLean and John L McLean; and two sisters, Joy Peavey and Grace Merritt.
The funeral service will be held for family and close friends on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 2 p.m., in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home Chapel, 545 Ramsey St, Fayetteville, NC 28301. Visitation starts at 1 p.m. Burial will be in LaFayette Memorial Park, 2301 Ramsey St, Fayetteville, NC 28301.
In lieu of flowers, it was Jo-Ann's wish that memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations in her name, to Palestine Presbyterian Church, 8081 Ramsey St, Linden, NC 28356.
Though she valued her privacy, her love and the lessons she imparted will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her.
