John Fairley Dunn, Jr., 81, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the Valley Hospice House.
Born in Cumberland County on November 21, 1943, J.F. was the son of the late John Fairley Dunn and Virginia Baucom Dunn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Joyce and his wife of 50 years, Barbara Allen Dunn, who was the love of his life.
He is survived by his daughters, Angela Falsion and husband Christopher, Leslie Nienaber; granddaughters, Laura and Nicole Nienaber; sister, Mary Vincent and his cat Cutie Pie.
A lifelong resident of Fayetteville, J.F. was the proud owner and operator of Dunn’s Nursery and Garden Shop, a family business he nurtured and grew from 1965 until his retirement in 2022. His work left a lasting mark on the community, not only through the beauty he cultivated but also through the relationships he built.
J.F. was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church, where he served as a former Deacon. He took pride in being on the board of First Union Bank and the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce. He also served for over five years with the North Carolina National Guard.
He loved spending time at the family beach house in North Myrtle Beach and enjoyed playing golf as well as watching the UNC Tarheels. J.F. will be remembered for his warm personality, quick wit, and a sense of humor that brought joy to those around him.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Lafayette Memorial Park.
