Joseph Matthew Johnson of Fayetteville, NC passed away on July 4th, 2024, after a long illness.
Matthew was born in Fayetteville on April 26th, 1963, to Bobby Johnson and Miriam Johnson (Oetjen). He was a graduate of Cape Fear High School, class of 1981. Matthew worked for Cutler-Hammer in Fayetteville, NC.
Matthew’s greatest love was music. He enjoyed writing and singing his own music with his brother Charlie. He loved attending concerts, cooking and eating. Matthew loved a good party around a bonfire or BBQ.
Matthew had a beautiful baritone voice. He played the drums and acted in local theatres in and around Fayetteville and New Port Richey, Florida. He enjoyed hearing and telling a good joke. Even after his illness progressed, he would continue calling family members from his hospital bed to tell a story or pun to make them laugh.
Matthew is survived by his mother Miriam Johnson (Oetjen), his brothers Charles, his sisters Angela Levorse, Neta Ketterman, and Christine Boisen, his brothers-in-law Tim Ketterman, Stephen Levorse, and Steve Boisen, and his nieces and nephews David Ketteman, Sarah Ketterman-Tana, Storm and Dylan Levorse, and Andrew and Amanda Boisen, and grand-nieces, Emi Tana and Juliette Gonzalas.
He is predeceased by his father, Charles Robert (Bobby) Johnson; grandparents John and Josephine Oetjen, Homer and Nancy (Godwin) Johnson, Aunt Mamie Jackson, Aunt Neta and Uncle Mack Johnson, and his brother, Robert Homer Johnson.
The family will hold a visitation for friends and family on Sunday, July 14th, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 15th, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Jernigan-Warren Chapel, followed by a graveside burial at 3:00 pm at Lafayette Memorial Park West, 6701 Raeford Rd., Fayetteville, NC 28304 in Fayetteville.
